European Parliament Backs Kazakhstan’s Political Reforms

A roundtable discussion on political reforms in Kazakhstan and the prospects for cooperation with the European Union was held at the European Parliament. Around 70 lawmakers, diplomats, experts and media representatives took part in the event.
Kazakhstan’s Permanent Representative to the European Union, Roman Vassilenko, outlined the reforms initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. According to him, the reforms are aimed at strengthening state institutions, expanding citizens’ participation in political processes and increasing the transparency of public administration.
Particular attention was paid to the results of the referendum on the new Constitution, which was held on March 15. The new Basic Law will enter into force on July 1 and provides for the further democratization of the political system, stronger checks and balances, an expanded role for representative institutions and the strengthening of the rule of law.
French Member of the European Parliament Thierry Mariani noted that Kazakhstan has achieved significant progress in political and economic modernization and remains a key partner of the European Union in Central Asia.
MEPs Virginie Joron and Tomasz Froelich also expressed support for the reforms, highlighting Kazakhstan’s important role for the EU in the areas of energy security, transport and logistics.
Participants discussed cooperation in transport, energy, science and innovation, as well as progress in negotiations on visa facilitation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants noted that Kazakhstan’s political modernization is creating new opportunities to strengthen the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and the EU across the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.

Kazakh Foreign Minister receives Thai Ambassador

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev received Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Kazakhstan Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

Particular attention was paid to the schedule of forthcoming high-level engagements, including the official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, to the Republic of Kazakhstan on 24-26 June 2026.
The parties also exchanged views on topical regional and international issues.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Received French Ambassador

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev received Ambassador of the French Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan Sylvain Guiaugué, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the Kazakh-French strategic partnership, including the further strengthening of political dialogue, the expansion of trade and economic ties, as well as the development of cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres. The parties also reviewed issues of cooperation within multilateral frameworks.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of joint investment and economic projects that are important for increasing bilateral trade and strengthening business contacts between the two countries.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to the further development of multifaceted cooperation between Astana and Paris.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on Russia Day, a national holiday of the Russian Federation, according to the Akorda presidential press service.
Kazakhstan highly values its relations of friendship and good-neighbourliness with brotherly Russia, which continue to develop steadily in the spirit of strategic partnership and alliance. Your recent state visit to Kazakhstan was of particular significance, as its outcomes opened new horizons for mutually beneficial cooperation and gave a powerful impetus to the implementation of large-scale projects and initiatives. I am confident that, through our joint efforts, relations between Kazakhstan and Russia will continue to develop dynamically across all areas," the telegram said.
The Kazakh president wished Vladimir Putin further success in his responsible state duties for the well-being and prosperity of the Russian Federation.

AMANAT and Ädilet Parties to Merge

Delegates at the 26th Congress of the AMANAT party have approved a proposal to merge with the Ädilet party, the agency's correspondent reported.
According to AMANAT Chairman Yerlan Koshanov, the merger will help consolidate resources and strengthen efforts aimed at building a fair and progressive Kazakhstan.
At this important moment, we must unite and combine our resources with the new political party Ädilet so that, as a single political force, we can continue building a fair and progressive Kazakhstan. We are not abandoning our principles, convictions, or ideas. There Are No Differences or Disagreements Between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Tokayev Says

There are no contradictions or disagreements between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during a meeting with Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Marlen Mamataliyev, according to the Akorda presidential press service.
As brothers, we will continue to strengthen our good-neighbourly relations. The economy of the Kyrgyz Republic is developing at a rapid pace, and we support this positive trend. The election of the Kyrgyz Republic as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council is truly a historic event both for Kyrgyzstan itself and for Central Asia as a whole," Tokayev said.
For his part, Marlen Mamataliyev conveyed greetings from Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to the Kazakh leader.
The meeting focused on the development of interparliamentary ties and effective legislative support for bilateral agreements reached at the highest level.
The two sides also held a substantive exchange of views on the systemic socio-economic reforms being implemented in both countries.
The interlocutors reaffirmed their commitment to the comprehensive development of strategic partnership and allied relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
