Kazakh Foreign Ministry Verifying Information on Dmitry Harris's Citizenship

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is verifying information regarding the citizenship of Dmitry Harris, who has claimed that he is being held in Russia. The announcement was made by Kazakhstan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev during a briefing in the Senate, an agency correspondent reports.

We confirm that we have received an appeal from Mr. Harrisov. According to information provided by the competent authorities of the Russian Federation, the individual in question is also registered as a citizen of the Russian Federation," Ashikbayev was quoted as saying by the Kazinform International News Agency.

According to the deputy foreign minister, Kazakh diplomats are providing the applicant with the necessary consular assistance.

First and foremost, we need to establish which citizenship he actually holds. To that end, our Consulate General in Astrakhan is maintaining direct contact with the individual concerned, as well as with the competent authorities of the Russian Federation," Ashikbayev added.

Earlier, media reports stated that Dmitry Harris claimed he was being held on the territory of the Russian Federation and had requested assistance from Kazakhstan's state authorities.
