Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic jointly hold a WTO session on the role of water in international trade

The World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters in Geneva hosted a joint panel session of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic entitled "Water Across Borders: Trade, Production, and Sustainable Development", organized within the framework of WTO Trade and Environment Week, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
Kairat Torebayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO and International Economic Organizations and Manira Alagudzhaeva, Vice-President of KAZWATER, who joined the session online from Astana took part at the event.
Permanent Representative K.Torebayev emphasized that for Central Asia, water has become a matter of economic resilience and competitiveness. Against this background, Kazakhstan views water efficiency not as a separate environmental agenda, but as a cornerstone of a new trade strategy. The country is consistently moving towards a model of high value-added agricultural exports, underpinned by water-saving technologies, the modernization of irrigation, and the digitalization of the water sector.
Turning to the role of the WTO, Permanent Representative K. Torebayev noted that public investments in water conservation and climate-resilient agriculture should be recognized as a contribution to global food security, rather than as a distortion of trade. He further encouraged the international community to take today's climate realities into account when shaping the future of global trade.
Alaguzhayeva presented the technological framework of Kazakhstan’s solutions under this agenda, and also put forward an initiative to establish a regional digital platform for monitoring water resources in Central Asia.
In turn, the Czech side expressed support positively assessing Astana`s efforts in this area.
The joint organization of the session by Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic underlined that the two states, located in different parts of the world, share common approaches to the management of transboundary water resources and their linkages with international trade.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry Publishes Information on Overseas Polling Stations
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published information on the composition, locations and operating hours of precinct election commissions established to conduct voting in the Kurultai parliamentary elections scheduled for 23 August 2026.
The ministry said the commissions were established in accordance with the Constitutional Law "On Elections in the Republic of Kazakhstan", the presidential decree calling the elections, and a resolution of the Central Election Commission approving the timetable for the preparation and conduct of the vote.
Particular attention is being paid to organising voting for Kazakh citizens residing abroad. For this purpose, precinct election commissions are being established at Kazakhstan's diplomatic missions and consular offices in foreign countries," the Foreign Ministry said.

Kazakhstan and China Launch Joint Biopesticide Production Initiative
Kazakhstan and China will launch joint projects to develop biopesticides and localise their production, the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture said.
The memorandum was signed by the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center, the Zhiembayev Kazakh Research Institute of Plant Protection and Quarantine, and the Institute of Plant Protection of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The agreement provides for the joint development of biopesticides, technology transfer, the localisation of production in Kazakhstan, and the training of specialists. The document was signed during the visit of a Chinese scientific delegation to Kazakhstan.
The parties also plan to conduct joint research, test new biological plant protection products, exchange scientific expertise and technologies, implement academic exchange programmes, and promote the commercialisation of promising projects.
According to the project participants, the cooperation will help expand the use of environmentally friendly plant protection products, reduce dependence on imports, and accelerate the introduction of innovations in Kazakhstan's agricultural sector.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan Presents Credentials to the President of the Republic of Korea

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Korea Asset Issenali presented his credentials to President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung.
During the solemn ceremony, Ambassador Issenali conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Lee Jae Myung on behalf of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The sides noted the high level of the Kazakhstan-Korea enhanced strategic partnership, founded on friendship and mutual support. They reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, and developing cultural and humanitarian ties.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan Presents Credentials to the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, concurrently accredited, Margulan Baimukhan, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaing.
During the credentials presentation ceremony, the President of Myanmar underscored the importance of further strengthening the friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Myanmar and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of common interest.
Ambassador Baimukhan conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the President of Myanmar, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The Kazakh diplomat also briefed the President of Myanmar on the large-scale political and socio-economic reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan at the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Particular attention was paid to the entry into force of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the first elections of deputies to the Kurultai, scheduled for 23 August this year, which will mark the beginning of a new model of legislative governance in the country. The priorities of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy were also presented.
Ambassador Baimukhan reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to further enhancing political dialogue with Myanmar and noted the considerable potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, investment, agriculture, transport and logistics, space, digital technologies, as well as cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
As a practical contribution to the Kazakhstan-Myanmar dialogue, the Ambassador informed the President of the successful holding of a Kazakhstan-Myanmar Roundtable in Yangon with the participation of representatives of Myanmar’s leading business community.
The Kazakh diplomat also invited Myanmar’s youth to pursue higher education at Kazakhstan’s universities, as well as at the branches of leading foreign universities operating in Kazakhstan, highlighting their high academic standards, internationally recognized educational programmes, and broad opportunities to obtain world-class degrees.
During his visit to Nay Pyi Taw, Ambassador Baimukhan also held talks with the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Tin Maung Swe.
The meeting included an exchange of views on current bilateral and international issues, as well as discussions on prospects for expanding political, trade, economic and investment ties, and strengthening cooperation within international organizations.

Kazakhstan's Initiative to Create International Water Organization Discussed in Nairobi
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) organized a round table dedicated to the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to establish a specialized International Water Organization under the auspices of the UN.
The event was attended by delegations of UN member states, UNEP leadership, and international experts.
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Office in Nairobi, Barlybay Sadykov, noted that water has become a systemic global challenge, closely related to climate change, biodiversity loss, food and energy security, as well as international stability. He emphasized that the existing UN water architecture remains fragmented, which significantly affects the ability to effectively address water issues. In this regard, Kazakhstan proposes creating an international water organization that could consolidate existing mandates. The optimal option is the transformation of the UN-Water interagency mechanism into a full-fledged specialized agency or organization. Kazakhstan's initiative was presented as an open invitation to an inclusive dialogue on improving the coherence, efficiency, and accountability of global water governance.
Arguing the relevance of the initiative, the Ambassador cited UN data that today 2.1 bln people still lack access to safe drinking water, 3.4 bln people are deprived of safe sanitation services, the funding gap for water infrastructure exceeds $1 trillion per year, while official development assistance in the water sector decreased by 12% between 2015 and 2021.
B.Sadykov paid special attention to Kazakhstan's experience, calling the tragedy of the Aral Sea a powerful global lesson that demands sustainable water resource management. At the same time, he emphasized that the experience of Central Asia proves: water can serve as a platform for dialogue and regional cooperation.
Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Suleimenova informed on the results of the first round of consultations on Kazakhstan's initiative in Astana within the framework of the Regional Environmental Summit in April 2026.
The discussions held made it possible to identify the most important aspects that need to be addressed in the further promotion of the initiative.
A number of states expressed full support for Kazakhstan's initiative and their readiness to cooperate closely in its further promotion.

Kazakhstan and China to Expand Cooperation in Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and Green Minerals
Kazakhstan and China will continue to expand cooperation in the sustainable development of the non-ferrous metallurgy sector and the extraction of green minerals, Han Chunlin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Kazakhstan, said during the Kazakhstan-China Forum on the Sustainable Development of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy.
The two sides will continue implementing the agreements reached by the Heads of State, strengthen policy coordination, introduce Chinese green intelligent technologies and modern equipment, and deepen cooperation across the entire value chain-from geological exploration and mining to the storage, transportation and marketing of mineral resources," the ambassador was quoted as saying by Kazinform News Agency.
He also noted that bilateral cooperation extends beyond the development of mineral resources required for the new energy sector and the production of advanced materials. It also includes the responsible development of traditional mineral deposits in compliance with environmental standards.
Kazakhstan was the first country where the Belt and Road Initiative was first presented. The republic ranks among the world's leading countries in reserves of chromium, tungsten, copper, lead and zinc. The potential of our two countries is complementary, and therefore our partnership in the mining and metallurgical industries continues to develop successfully," Han Chunlin added.

Kazakhstan and Israel Discuss Joint Innovation and Technology Projects
Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Israel, Daulet Yemberdiyev, held talks in Tel Aviv with Shlomi Kofman, Deputy Head of the Israel Innovation Authority, to discuss expanding cooperation in innovation, digitalisation and the adoption of advanced technologies, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The meeting was held as part of the implementation of agreements reached during Israeli President Isaac Herzog's visit to Astana in April this year.
The Kazakh side noted that the agreements reached at the highest level create additional opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in innovation and attract Israeli technologies.
For his part, Shlomi Kofman reaffirmed Israel's readiness to develop practical cooperation with Kazakhstan. During the talks, the parties discussed strengthening ties between Kazakh companies and Israel's technology sector, as well as supporting joint projects aimed at introducing advanced technological solutions in Kazakhstan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides agreed to continue close cooperation in implementing previously reached agreements, including through the Kazakh-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbayev met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Monika Iwersen, on the occasion of the conclusion of her diplomatic mission.
The Kazakh Foreign Minister praised the high level of Kazakh-German strategic partnership and reaffirmed Astana’s commitment to further developing bilateral relations across all areas.
The importance of his visit to Berlin in February and his participation in the Ministerial Meeting of the Central Asia - Germany format, during which both sides confirmed their intention to deepen cooperation and advance joint initiatives were highlighted.
Ambassador Iwersen expressed sincere gratitude for the support extended during her tenure and reaffirmed Berlin’s readiness to continue a constructive dialogue with Astana in the spirit of mutual respect and trust.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Kosherbayev presented Ambassador Iwersen with the Order of Dostyk, Second Class, in recognition of Ambassador’s personal contribution to strengthening the friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries.
