The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is meeting in Kazan on Thursday. Kazakhstan’s delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, the agency’s correspondent reports.

We share the view that building an architecture of equal and indivisible security across the Eurasian continent requires deeper dialogue between the CSTO and other regional integration structures that also address security issues. First and foremost, these are the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Representatives of the secretariats of both organisations took part in today’s expanded-format meeting," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

Lavrov noted that participants approved a number of statements that Russia, as the current chair, will soon circulate at international platforms, including the United Nations.

First and foremost, this is a joint statement marking the upcoming 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War. We stressed that the memory of this tragic date unites the peoples of all CSTO member states. Symbolically, before the start of today’s meeting, together with the CSTO Secretary General we laid wreaths at the Eternal Flame in Victory Park," he said.

The ministers also approved a statement on strengthening the role of international law and reaffirming commitment to the principles of the UN Charter.

A third document focuses on countering the use of information and communication technologies for sabotage and terrorist purposes, while a fourth addresses efforts to prevent an arms race in outer space.

A number of the documents approved today are draft texts that will be submitted for consideration and adoption by the Collective Security Council. Among them is a draft CSTO Counterterrorism Strategy through 2030, developed at Russia’s initiative. The document is intended to define the conceptual framework for our work in one of the key areas of the CSTO’s mandate," Lavrov said.

The next meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled to take place in Moscow on November 10 this year.
