Demand for Saiga Meat Remains Low in Kazakhstan, Agriculture Ministry Says

Demand for saiga meat remains low in Kazakhstan, leading to a buildup of inventories at processing plants, Deputy Agriculture Minister Azat Sultanov said at a government press briefing.

According to Sultanov, one of the reasons behind the situation is the restrictions associated with Kazakhstan's commitments to the conservation and restoration of rare animal populations.

Unfortunately, there is currently no significant demand for saiga meat. We are seeing excess inventories at processing enterprises. This is primarily linked to the commitments Kazakhstan has undertaken to restore populations of rare animal species," Sultanov was quoted as saying by the Kazinform news agency.

He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Ministry of Ecology, the Ministry of Trade, and other government agencies, is working to expand sales channels for the product.

At the same time, the recommended price for saiga meat remains unchanged. The list of meat-processing plants authorised to process saiga meat has also remained the same.
