Kazakh freestyle jumpers won mixed team aerials

Almaty. 31 January. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakh freestyle jumpers won mixed team aerials.

2. China-1 (Syuy Kho, Shi Haitao)

3. China-2 (Zhu Ying Ying, Guo Ziming)

A mixed team aerials event was held on 31 January at Tabagan where the Kazakh team had a comfortable win.

The event was held in a foggy weather. It had been snowing since the morning and the organizers had to delay the qualification round. Fortunately, the weather improved toward the final stage and it snowed less heavily.

Six teams from four countries took part in the event. Each team was comprised of one male and one female jumper. According to the event schedule, each athlete was to perform one jump after which points earned by each team member were put together. Based on qualification results, four teams were able to reach the final: "Kazakhstan-2" (Zhanbota Aldabergenova and Baglan Inkarbek), "China-1" (Syuy Kho, Shi Haitao), "China-2" (Zhu Ying Ying, Guo Ziming) and "Belarus" (Vera Lyashkevich and Artem Bashlakov).

It is common knowledge that in team events each team memberИs performance matters. One team member, no matter how good he or she is, will not be able to win the event single-handedly if his/her team mateИs performance is worse than that of their opponents.

There were no surprises during Final-1. Three leading teams were two teams from China and one team from Kazakhstan.

During the decisive second final Zhu Ying Ying, the 2017-Universiade champion in the individual event, made an error which led to China-2 wining bronze. The jumper from China-1 did not perform her jump ideally either. However, Shi HaitaoИs performance made it possible for this duo to win the silver medal.

The host team wanted to get even with the Chinese team for their loss in the individual event really badly. Zhanbota Aldabergenova and Baglan Inkarbek were extremely focused and calm at the same time compared to the day before since the objective of winning a medal was reached already. To the joy of local fans, Zhanbota and Baglan performed their jumps well and deservedly won the gold medal.
