International conference on Transparency Initiative takes place in Baku

Baku. March 31. Kazakhstan Today - International conference ”Transparency Initiative in Mineral Resources Extracting Industry: pilot state initiative”, organized by the state commission on implication of the Initiative in Azerbaijan conjointly with the Coalition on transparency improvement in extracting industry will take place in Baku, April 6, the agency correspondent reports.

NGO representatives from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the USA, the Great Britain, Nigeria, Egypt and Peru will take part in the conference work. The ambassadors accredited in Azerbaijan of the USA, the Great Britain, France, Norway and Kazakhstan and the heads of Azerbaijan international organizations have been invited to the conference.

The forth session of International consulting group (ICG) rendering support to the member countries in realization of transparency Initiative in mineral resources extracting industry will be held on April 5 in Baku.

The Minister of Mineral Resources of Nigeria Obiageli Ezekwesili, the Director of Political Planning U.S State department, representatives of the International Development Ministry of Great Britain, Foreign Ministries of France and Norway, World Bank, International Foreign Currency Fund, Chevron, Anglo-American, as well as international NGOs Global Witness and Open Institute will take part in the session.

Within the session framework the present state of affairs on EITI introduction in different countries and the future ICG work on the Initiative realization will be discussed. Participants of the meeting will also discuss preparation work the for 3-rd international EITI conference.
