Kazakhstan witnesses a 44% increase in the number of credit card users

The six large banks offer premium rewards credit cards on favourable terms.
Credit cards become the driver of the market of cards. So, in August the number of credit cards in circulation made up 3.4 million, that is by 44.7% more than in the previous year, Ranking.kz reports.

For comparison, the total number of cards in circulation has increased by 23.6% over the year. And, the share of credit cards of the total number of cards makes up 15.9%, against 13.6% in the past year.

Increase in the popularity of credit cards is seen while taking a look at actively used cards. In this regard, the number of credit cards has jumped up to 1.4 million and increased by 48.1%, and the total number of actively used cards has observed a 2.8% decrease year-by-year.

The share of credit cards used for active transactions has increased in the year from 11.1 to 16.9%.

In the background of the demand and strengthened competitiveness, the banks come up with more interesting offers for Kazakhstani citizens. So, among the ten large banks of the country providing credits, there are six second-tier banks offer prestigious premium credit cards from Gold and above, with a cash-back system and bonus programmes.

The smallest base interest rate is observed in AFT Bank - starting from 19%, it is followed by Tsesnabank - from 24% and Bank CentreCredit - 26% and above.

ATF Bank has the maximum operation term of the credit limit in the segment - up to 60 months. Tsesnabank, Sberbank and centreCredit offer the term up to 36 months.

ATF Bank and ForteBank have the maximum amount of credit limit (up to three million tenges), the next one is Halyk Bank (up to 1.5 million tenges) and CentreCredit - up to 1 million tenges.

Exemption period in the segment varies from 45 to 60 days. The following banks have 60 days, they are ATF Bank, ForteBank - 55 days, CentreCredit - 50 days.

Cask-back is provided by the four banks out of six, among them, ATF Bank and ForteBank (Platinum cards) have standard cash-back of 1.5%, and ForteBank's Gold cards - 1.2%. CentreCredit - 1% and Tsesnabank - 0.5%.

Halyk Bank repays up to 3% in bonus, and CentreCerdit on World cards - 1% bonus scores. In addition, Sberbank and CentreCerdit provide Nomad Club cards with possibilities to gain bonus air scores.
