No Sharp Rise in the U.S. Dollar Expected, National Bank Says

Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov has commented on the possible trajectory of the U.S. dollar exchange rate in the coming months, an agency correspondent reported.

We do not see any fundamental or market-driven factors that would lead to a sharp increase in the dollar’s exchange rate, either this summer or in the autumn. We openly acknowledge that there is a seasonal effect during the summer due to the holiday season. Seasonality can also be observed in vegetable and meat prices, and even in utility tariffs. The same applies to the dollar exchange rate," Suleimenov said.

According to the National Bank chief, the dollar typically weakens slightly at the beginning of the year before gradually strengthening toward the middle and end of the year.

We believe the same trend will be observed this year. There will be no sharp increase," Suleimenov stressed.
