Acceptance of the Comprehensive Convention on Struggle against International Terrorism meets the interests of all member states of the United Nations. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, expressed his opinion during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the agency reports referring to press service of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry.

Astana. September 29. Kazakhstan Today - Acceptance of the Comprehensive Convention on Struggle against International Terrorism meets the interests of all member states of the United Nations. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, expressed his opinion during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the agency reports referring to press service of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry.

"Struggle against international terrorism has been one of the global problems that demands unity and determination of the whole world community. Having signed all conventions in this sphere, Kazakhstan has been carrying out an active work within the limits of the regional antiterrorist structures," he emphasized.

"In conditions of crisis of non-distribution modes the world community has faced real danger of falling of nuclear weapons into the hands of terrorists," the minister considers. In this connection, he reminded that Kazakhstan is the active participant of the Global Initiative on Struggle against Nuclear Terrorism. Kazakhstan held exercises atom-anti-terror and the international conference on physical protection of nuclear materials.

"Drug dealing feeds terrorism and to counteract this threat is possible only through the coordinated and effective actions of all international community," Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan continued.

"The situation in Afghanistan has still caused alarm. Kazakhstan since the first days has rendered assistance to the international antiterrorist coalition operating in this long-suffering country by the approval of the UN Security Council. The way to normalization of the situations is escalation of efforts of the international community on restoration of peace in Afghanistan. With this objective the government of our country accepted the special plan on assistance to Afghanistan," he noted.

M. Tazhin is convinced that "the international peacekeeping operations under the aegis of the United Nations have been the effective tool on prevention and settlement of conflicts as well as maintenance of global and regional stability."
