KazAtomProm to supply uranium for the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced its choice on November 20, 2018.
SC NAC KazAtomProm was chosen as one of the suppliers of low-enriched uranium for the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank, an official website of the National Atomic Company informs.

In August 2015, Kazakhstan and the IAEA signed an agreement to create the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank on the territory of Kazakhstan, and in August 2017 an official opening ceremony of the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank's building on the site of Ulba Metallurgical Plant in the city of Usk-Kamenogorsk with the participation of the President of Kazakhstan and the IAEA Director-General took place.

The International Atomic Energy Agency's choice in favor of KazAtomProm as one of the suppliers proves the high confidence level from the world community to the company as a reliable and recognized supplier of uranium products," they said in the company.


The IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank is part of the global efforts on the creation of guaranteeing the nuclear fuel and has been established to supply nuclear fuel to the IAEA member states, that deploy atomic energy in peaceful purposes, in case of violation of the existing mechanisms of fuel supplies for atomic energy stations.

The Bank is financed at the expenses of fees contributed by donors from the following states and organizations: the USA, the EU, the UAE, Kuwait, Norway, Kazakhstan, Nuclear Threat Initiative, a non-governmental organization and fund.
