"The session of Kyrgyzstan Parliament adopted the bill on ratification of the Contract between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan frontier" signed on January 15, 2001 in the city of Astana. 82 deputies participated in voting process, 65 voted for the bill, 14 against, and three have refrained," the Parliament press service informed.

Two fractions - the Communists and Social Democrats voted against ratification of the document insisting on adoption of the bill in two readings. However, the Speaker of zhogorku kenesh (parliament) Adahan Madumarov stated that "there is no necessity as the contract does not change the borders, but legalizes the line earlier approved by the governments of two states." The document was adopted owing to fraction of majority - the National Party Ak Zhol despite of difference of opinions regarding some territories.

According to zhogorku kenesh, as of today, there are two disputable sites at the Kyrgyzstan-Kazakhstan border: in Talass and Chu oblasts; changes after ratification of the contract will concern 15 sites.
