Session of SCO Council of Foreign Ministers took place in Dushanbe

The next session of Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO member states took place in Dushanbe under presidency of Tajikistan, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Astana. July 25. Kazakhstan Today - The next session of Council of Foreign Ministers of SCO member states took place in Dushanbe under presidency of Tajikistan, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

"The Ministers discussed preparation for the session of the Council of leaders of SCO member states, which will take place on August 28, 2008 in Dushanbe and highly estimated the efforts undertaken by the presiding country on organization of Dushanbe summit," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan informs.

Foreign Ministers noted with satisfaction that goals and objectives set at last year's Bishkek meeting at high level have been successfully realized. "Fruitful work on strengthening and expansion of cooperation in the sphere of safety, foreign policy, trade and economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres have been done," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan explains.

The Ministers confirmed the necessity of strengthening practical cooperation with SCO member states in the areas representing common interest.

SCO permanent bodies have been recommended to establish cooperation with CIS, ASEAN, EurAsEC, CSTO, OEC and UN ESCATO according to the signed memorandums of mutual understanding with these organizations.

Much attention has been drawn to the situation in Afghanistan and to solution of problems of suppression of threats coming from this country, taken into account of possibilities of SCO contact group - Afghanistan and other mechanisms. SCO member states along with the United Nations and the corresponding international organizations will endeavor to strengthen stability in Afghanistan and assist its economic revival.

SCO Secretary General, Bolat Nurgaliyev, presented the report on the work of the secretariat for the last year that had been approved by the ministers.

Foreign Ministers accepted a number of decisions on organizational aspects of the work of SCO permanent bodies.

Vice Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Ermekbayev, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Chinese National Republic, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Ednan Karabayev, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Republic Tajikistan, Hamrohon Zarifi, First Vice Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Ilham Nematov, SCO Secretary General, Bolat Nurgaliyev, and Director of Executive Committee of SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure, Mirzakan Subanov took part in the session.
