Georgian opposition plans to win presidential elections

The representatives of the united Georgian opposition trust in victory of the candidate in extraordinary presidential elections on January 5, 2008, the agency reports.

Tbilisi. November 12. Kazakhstan Today - The representatives of the united Georgian opposition trust in victory of the candidate in extraordinary presidential elections on January 5, 2008, the agency reports.

The President of Georgia Michael Saakashvili stated in the evening, presidential elections will be held a year prior to the term and will take place on January 5, 2008. According to M. Saakashvili, the decision on pre-scheduled presidential elections has been made to give a chance to the Georgian opposition to become elected by people.

"I make a compromise and give oppositions chance to become elected by people if they deserve it," M. Saakashvili stated.

The President of Georgia emphasized that he reduces the first presidential term by his own will so that nobody can say that he is an exocentric and an authoritative dictator.

The representatives of coalition of the united opposition that includes 10 parties stated to journalists that they will put forward one candidate at the extraordinary presidential elections of Georgia. The name of the candidate will be defined after consultations. The representatives of opposition consider the decision on pre-scheduled presidential elections a victory of people.

In the opinion of the expert, for such country as Georgia, one of the best political decisions would be abolition of the president's post and establishment of parliamentary system of governing.
