Traffic safety in Astana to be improved up to European standards - PM

Traffic safety in Astana needs to be improved up to European standards. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, stated at the meeting concerning development of the capital on Saturday, the agency reports.

Astana. July 14. Kazakhstan Today - Traffic safety in Astana needs to be improved up to European standards. The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Karim Masimov, stated at the meeting concerning development of the capital on Saturday, the agency reports.

"Traffic safety in Astana should be improved up to the best European standards," K. Masimov said.

K. Masimov ordered to solve the problem of provision of population with quality public transportation.

As he said, 1.5 million automobiles have been imported in the country for the last five years. "Only 25 % - new cars and 75 % - trash out of this 1.5 million. All these old cars create a lot of problems," the Prime Minister noted.

"Therefore, an alternative is good public transport: buses and cheap taxi," K. Masimov considers.
