Action against Society for Krishna Consciousness withdrawn

Almaty. December 2. Kazakhstan Today - The akim of Karasay oblast has withdrawn the action against the Society for Krishna Consciousness regarding recognition of the structures of the society illegal and their subsequent pulling down, the agency reports with reference to the press service of the religious society.

"On Monday, December 1, the judge of Karasay regional court, Taken Shakirov, informed the representatives of the Society for Krishna Consciousness that akim of Karasay oblast, being the claimant of the claim regarding recognition of the structures of the Society for Krishna Consciousness illegal and their subsequent pulling down, has withdrawn his claim. The lawsuit has been closed," the press service informed.

According to the members of the religious society, the Society for Krishna Consciousness has resumed its negotiations with Almaty regional akimat.

"At the meeting with the assistant akim of Almaty oblast, Serik Mukanov, the management of the Society for Krishna Consciousness raised the question of the opportunity to remain in Karasay region. S. Mukanov said that this is out of the question. There is a project on this land plot," he stated.

S. Mukanov has suggested continuing searches of suitable 5 hectares of the land in Iliy region.

"The series of lawsuits originated by Karasay akimat against Society for Krishna Consciousness have lasted for more than 4 years. During this time the authorities of the region destroyed 26 houses of the society and withdrew 47 hectares of the land without any compensation. In spite of the fact that the Society for Krishna Consciousness still resides in the territory of Karasay region, in the place of its legal registration, the regional authorities have been doing their best to make the Society for Krishna Consciousness leave the place as soon as possible," the press service informs.
