Ministry of Environmental Protection brought suit against Tengizshevroil for $609 million

The Ministry of Environmental Protection brought a suit against Tengizshevroil Company for the sum of $609 million.

Astana. October 4. Kazakhstan Today - The Ministry of Environmental Protection brought a suit against Tengizshevroil Company for the sum of $609 million. The Minister of Environmental Protection Nurlan Iskakov said Wednesday in the interview to journalists.

"We have brought a suit against Tengizshevroil for the sum of 74 billion KZT. The issue is being resolved in the judicial order," N. Iskakov said. "Earlier we brought suits against the company for regular infringements - 98 accidents, 15 concealed. For the period of 2003 - 2006 (for formation of sub-standard sulfur) we claimed the penalty at the rate of 74.4 billion KZT, or $609 million," the Minister explained.

The claim is being considered in Atyrau regional court.
