Almaty. 21 September. Kazakhstan Today - An expanded meeting of the Coalition of Democratic Forces of the city dedicated to "Modernization of public consciousness: the first frontiers" was held in Almaty, the agency reports.

The participants of the meeting discussed the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet and the results of the International EXPO exhibition held in Astana.

"Today's extended meeting is held against the backdrop of important historical events in our country. Firstly, the international exhibition EXPO-2017 "Energy of the Future" has solemnly closed, which has become a new chapter in the history of our country. The world exhibition is not only a new stage in promoting the name of Kazakhstan in the world, but also the basis of a big leap in innovative development. The Bureau International des Expositions gave the highest assessment to the level of holding this exhibition and the outstanding role of the head of our state," Kayim-Munar Tabeyev, deputy chairman of the Almaty branch of the Nur Otan Party, noted at the meeting.

According to the pro-rector of the International University of Innovative Technologies Raisa Uskenbayeva, "EXPO has become one of the key events in the newest history of Kazakhstan, a symbol of industrialization, communication, an open platform for demonstrating technical and technological achievements."

"115 countries took part in this international forum, which is a unique event for us. With regard to the significance of EXPO for Kazakhstan, it should be said that this is our national project, the greatest opportunity for Kazakhstan to obtain new, energy and green technologies. The exhibition marked one of the most relevant topics, the energy of the future, i.e. alternative and renewable energy sources that are of concern to the world community. We are at the stage of transition to a new development model, today Kazakhstan should move to a new model of economic growth based on innovation and the introduction of high technologies in production. The President noted the importance of developing three scientific and technological clusters in Astana: high technologies, biomedical and geological clusters," added Uskenbayeva.

As Tabeyev recalled during the meeting, the second important event in the republic recently was "a parliamentary hearing on the issue of introducing a single Roman script standard for the alphabet of the state language."

"The public was presented with a variant of spelling Kazakh sounds in Latin. The transition of the state language to Roman script is aimed at a qualitative modernization of the language and is conditioned by objective factors. Almost the whole world now writes in Latin, and all brand names are written in Latin letters. Kazakhstan needs to join the global community. Our neighbors - Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan - have long switched to Latin alphabet. This step opens new opportunities for access to the most modern achievements in the science and technology. Today, the transition of the Kazakh alphabet is widely discussed in society and this issue will be submitted to the discussions of members of our coalition of democratic forces. This process should take into account the characteristics of all parties. The discussion and approval of a single standard of the state language alphabet on the Roman script will be followed by the stage its practical implementation, which will be phased, systematic and gradual," the writer explained.

Pro-rector of the International University of Innovative Technologies called the transition to the Latin script a timely step.

"Transition to the Latin alphabet is being vividly discussed everywhere, especially in education. As IT specialists, we understand better than anyone from a technical point of view that the transition to the Latin alphabet is a timely step, this is integration into a global community. Now this integration requires young people to know not only one language, but knowledge of many languages. In all developed countries, a program under which a young man, a student, a schoolboy should know at least two languages, has long existed, and therefore multilingual space, which is introduced into the development program of Kazakhstan, is a perfectly timely demand, and we should work in this direction," concluded Uskenbayeva.

Abdulla Saparov, chairman of the Almaty city branch of the People-Democratic Party "Auyl" also spoke in for introduction of the Latin graphics. He recalled that "the Latin alphabet is the basis of the writing of many modern languages. Every year 75% of the scientific literature in the world is published in languages using the Latin alphabet. More than 60% of the advanced patents of science are issued in countries using Latin graphics."

"We can confidently say that Latin graphics are one of the most popular and actively used in the world. The prospect of the development of the village, the prospect of the development of agriculture is directly related to new technologies, with new innovations and new information spaces. All this new, all innovative uses the Latin graphics, the transition to the Latin script creates favorable conditions for mastering the English language and many other languages," recalled Saparov. In his opinion, the transition to the Latin alphabet will help Kazakhstanis to gain access to modern scientific achievements.

"One of the tasks set by the head of state is to begin gradual transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin script in the coming years. Elbasy called everyone to a quiet, gradual transition, prepared with caution, for all the years of independence. He especially noted that the Kazakh language should become the consolidator of the peoples of Kazakhstan," concluded Dmitry Vasilyev, chairman of the Almaty city branch of the Akzhol Democratic Party.

In conclusion, the participants of the meeting were called upon to continue participating in the discussion and explanation of the transition to the Latin alphabet.
