Baikonur. April 10. Kazakhstan Today - Preparation of the carrier rocket Soyuz-U intended for launch of the cargo ship Progress М-64 began at Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Federal Space Center Baikonur.

The launch of the carrier rocket Soyuz-U with the cargo ship Progress М-64 to the International Space Station (ISS) with cargoes for the crew of the 17th expedition is planned for the middle of May.

According to the press service, Samara State Scientific Industrial Rocket and Space Centre Progress jointly with the experts of the Federal Space Center Baikonur stack the blocks of the second step of the carrier rocket on workstations in the assembly testing house of the platform №112. The blocks of the first step after inspection are being prepared for pneumatic tests.

The experts of the cosmodrome are carrying out electric tests of the systems of the cargo transport ship Progress М-64 in the assembly-testing house of the platform №254.

The launch of the carrier rocket Soyuz-U with the cargo ship Progress М-64 is planned for the middle of May, 2008.

The cargo ship Progress М-64 will transport to the International space station fuel for maintenance of the orbit of the station, food, water, and scientific equipment for the crew of cosmonauts of the 17th expedition launched to the International Space Station on April 8.
