Vth Eurasian Media Forum open in Almaty

Almaty. April 20. Kazakhstan Today – The Vth Eurasian Media Forum, a unique East-West encounter between news analysts and newsmakers, opened today in Almaty, the agency correspondent reports.

The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev is expected to address speech of welcome to the forum participants. The executive producer of "Focus Asia Productions" Jim Lori and the chairman of EAMF organizing committee Dariga Nazarbayeva will deliver speeches on the first day of the conference.

The questions such as economic and geopolitic role of Central Asia in conditions of energy situation in the world and an increasing role of China and India; basic tendencies, models and technologies of development of the international electronic mass media; problems of formation of principles of tolerance and multiculture in the modern society; potential role of press in overcoming disputed opposition of cultures and religions will be discussed.

The leading international and regional journalists, outstanding politicians, the heads of world media community, businessmen and experts will participate in the forum.

The Forum was set up as a non-political body in Kazakhstan in 2001. EUMF objective is assistance to cooperation development between the East and the West.

More than 300 delegates from more than 35 countries of Asia, Europe, the Near East, Northern America and Africa took part in the IVth Eurasian Media Forum in April, 2005 in Almaty. Last year's forum touched upon a number of most actual issues, including problems of media coverage of acts of terrorism, questions of media legislation, the situation in Central Asia and outside its borders.
