Almaty. May 30. Kazakhstan Today - Europe may face deficit of gas by 2015. The Associate Director of International Energy Agency (IEA) William Ramsay informed at the summit of CIS on oil and gas in Paris on Wednesday, the agency reports referring to information resource of RBC Daily.

According to W. Ramsay, Gazprom cannot satisfy a growing demand for gas in the European Union any more.

Gazprom has skeptically reacted to the IEA representative statement. "We observe contract obligations and will continue. If demand for gas has increased in Europe, they need to contact us and we will discuss this," the representative of gas monopoly stated.

According to Gazprom, the company plans to extract 650 - 670 billion cubic meters of gas by 2020. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, extraction of gas in Russia by 2020 can increase up to 800 - 900 billion cubic meters that will compensates growth of demand in Europe.

As it was informed earlier, European Union has already repeatedly expressed doubts that Gazprom will be able to satisfy foreign demand for gas. EU indicated decrease of extraction of gas in Russia and lack of investments in gas extraction industry.

According to Russian Statistics Agency, extraction of natural gas in Russia last year decreased by 0.8 % in comparison with 2006 and made 651 billion cubic meters.

Deliveries of gas to the European Union total 84.8 % of all Russian export, or 26.3 % of gas consumed on the territory of EU. Russia consumes about 450 billion cubic meters, including fuel gas of compressor stations. Europe (without taking into account former USSR countries) consumes nearly 520 billion cubic meters.
