Kazakh petroleum traders accuse large oil companies of collusion over fuel price increase

Almaty. August 3. Kazakhstan Today - On Thursday at a press-conference, oil traders accused large oil companies such as KazMunayGaz NC, PetroKazakhstan JSC and MangistauMunayGaz and their oil refineries of collusion and fuel price hikes, agency correspondent informs.

According to chairman of board of directors of "Nar-Oil" financial-industrial group Sultan Ushbayev, the situation on the market of petroleum products in Kazakhstan was discussed on July 21, at a meeting in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. "It is most likely that this meeting was for governmental lobbying of large oil companies," he stated.

MEMR together with oil companies suggest canceling the tariffs for oil export, which for today are $64 for a ton, S. Ushbaev noted.

In particular, it is suggested to cancel the oil market regulations, fixing only prices for AI-80 gasoline type, making prices for other fuel market defined, and in accordance with current world prices.

"In case of adoption of these suggestions, oil companies will be able to not only export the products abroad without any obstacles, putting Kazakhstan in deficit of oil products, but also to dictate any prices for fuel on the internal market," they underlined.
