Kazakhstan, Russia develop cooperation

During the first six months of 2012 the turnover between the North Kazakhstan region and Russia equaled to 342 million US dollars, which is 1.5 times more than a year before. We expect that in the next six months these figures will increase a lot.

Almaty. September 24. Kazakhstan Today - The North Kazakhstan region has reached a completely new level of cooperation with regions of Russia. Together with the economic cooperation with the Tyumen, Kurgan and Omsk region, Kazakhstan has established links with St Petersburg and Penza.

According to Caspionet, with the strengthening of integration links of the two countries, the near border regions are actively increasing amounts of mutual trade and cooperation. For example, with the establishment of the Customs Union the turnover in the northern regions has increased a lot.

"During the first six months of 2012 the turnover between the North Kazakhstan region and Russia equaled to 342 million US dollars, which is 1.5 times more than a year before. We expect that in the next six months these figures will increase a lot," said Kairat Bekenov, Deputy North Kazakhstan Region Governor.

Additionally, it is planned to establish cooperation in mechanical engineering. Russian producers are interested in products of the Petropavlovsk plant for the oil and gas industry. This year as part of the industrial and innovative development programme the plant has undated the equipment. Russia has already made a sample order.

"Thanks to the high productivity and cost effectiveness, we have a possibility to export our products. We have sent sample products a month ago and currently it is undergoing inspection. We are going to earn 70 million tenge from exports," said Sergei Yerofeyev, Plant Representative.

Recently, Kazakhstan and Russia have strengthened cooperation in the railways, energy, and construction areas. Additionally, it is planned to bring the cooperation in the agricultural area to a completely new level.
