Conference of Ministers for Foreign Affairs opened in Astana

The conference of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs representing a number of states of the Islamic world and the west started its work in Astana today, the agency reports.

Astana. October 17. Kazakhstan Today - The conference of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs representing a number of states of the Islamic world and the west started its work in Astana today, the agency reports.

The conference opened with the President's of Kazakhstan speech and the Secretary General of Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, addressed the participants of the conference with a salutatory speech.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sven Alkalay, Estonia, Urmas Paet, Kyrgyzstan, Ednan Karabayev, and Montenegro, Milan Rochen and others are expected to make speeches at the conference.

"The forthcoming forum represents practical realization of the idea of establishment of the dialogue in the format - Muslim World - West, which since 2006 has been promoted by its initiator - the Republic of Kazakhstan," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan press release informs.

According to the Kazakhstan foreign policy department, the main purpose of the conference is practical discussion of approaches of the parties to the problems of international relations, modernization, economic cooperation, mutual adaptation of cultures, and analysis of the role of mass media in this process."

Following the results of the forum, the participants of the conference will accept Final Astana Declaration. "Representatives from more than 60 countries and international organizations are expected to take part in the conference," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan press service informs.
