Kazakhstan to continue returning its citizens back from the hottest areas

On January 6, following the Zhusan humanitarian operation, 47 Kazakhstan citizens, including 30 children, were returned from Syria.
The humanitarian operation to rescue Kazakh citizens from the hottest areas, including Syria, will continue, Deputy Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev told during a briefing in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today we are ready to tell you some details about the operation. Firstly, I would like to underline that the humanitarian operation was possible thanks to the authority of the Head of State based on Kazakhstan’s active constructive foreign policy efforts to combat international terrorism. In addition, as you know, Kazakhstan actively works to put an end to the bloodshed, to build peace in Syria as part of Astana process on Syria," said Yerzhan Ashikbayev, noting the cessation of hostilities in most of Syria.

He has also noted that Kazakhstan will continue such operations. In turn, head of the NSC Department Bakhytbek Rakhymberdiyev told whether the Kazakh citizens returned from Syria would face punishment.

The persons who will be found guilty [of committing terrorist acts – the editor’s remark] will serve their sentences in Kazakhstan. There no plans to withdraw nationality of the prevailing number of innocent persons," said Rakhymberidiyev.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev put forward a statement upon the end of the humanitarian operation aimed at returning Kazakh citizens.
