Session of chairmen of Ministries of Defence of CSTO member countries took place

The session of the Ministers of Defense of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was held on August 21, the agency reports referring to CSTO press service.

Yerevan. August 25. Kazakhstan Today - The session of the Ministers of Defense of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was held on August 21, the agency reports referring to CSTO press service.

According to the press service, the chairmen of defense departments discussed military-political situation developed in the zone of responsibility of the organization and the adjoining regions. The First Vice Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kolmakov, informed the participants of the meeting on the situation in the zone of Georgian-South Ossetian conflict.

Nikolay Bordyuzha touched upon the relationships of CSTO - NATO and CSTO - OSCE. According to the Secretary General, cooperation with OSCE is close, especially in the Central-Asian region. As for NATO, the situation is frozen, though CSTO is ready for cooperation, NATO has not responded," Bordyuzha noted.

According to CSTO press service, it was decided during the meeting that Armenia, on behalf of the Minister of Defense, Seyran Oganyan, will head Ministerial Council of Defense of the organization between CSTO sessions and the chairman of the Joint Staff of Armed Forces of Armenia, Jury Hachaturov, will supervise CSTO Joint Staff during the same period.

CSTO participants, created in May, 1992, are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
