Kazakhstan suggests opening regional office ESCAP/EEC - Tazhin

Kazakhstan suggests opening regional office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the European Economic Commission (EEC). The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, said during the 63rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on Monday, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan suggests opening regional office of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the European Economic Commission (EEC). The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Marat Tazhin, said during the 63rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on Monday, the agency reports referring to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

"We attach great value to ESCAP and EEC activities in Central Asia. Active participation of these organizations in achievement by the countries of the region of the goals of development of the millennium deserves high estimation. Opening of the regional office ESCAP/EEC in Kazakhstan will serve further coordination of efforts on achievement of the goals of social and economic development in Central Asia," M. Tazhin said.

"In this connection we address all states to support this initiative," he addressed the participants of the session of the UN General Assembly.

"Kazakhstan is adherent to the obligations on effective achievement of Millennium Development Goals. We have already realized a number of goals in this sphere, including reduction of poverty, access to education and promotion of the rights of women. Now we begin realization of the agenda of Millennium Development Goals Plus, which is adapted to conditions of our country and provides higher parameters and indicators," the minister emphasized.
