Kazakhstan's joining of the Customs Union will not affect the relations with the EU. Director of Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission, Gunnar Wiegand, informed at the briefing on Wednesday in the representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, the agency reports.

Astana. June 18. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan's joining of the Customs Union will not affect the relations with the EU. Director of Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission, Gunnar Wiegand, informed at the briefing on Wednesday in the representation of the European Commission in Kazakhstan, the agency reports.

"During the meetings, I asked many questions concerning a recent decision regarding creation of the Customs Union, which was announced last week during EurAsEC session. I also asked our partners about how creation of the Customs Union will affect Kazakhstan's decision to join WTO and our mutual relations. It was pleasant to hear that it will not be affect further negotiations and introduction of Kazakhstan into WTO and the relations between EU and Kazakhstan," G. Wiegand said.

The EU representative emphasized, "the European Union is the main partner of Kazakhstan in assistance and resolution of the issues and problems connected with the financial and economic crisis and is ready to help Kazakhstan with the economy diversification."

"We will support Kazakhstan in preparation to the chairmanship in OSCE in 2010," G. Wiegand concluded.
