Kyrgyzstan Parliament Committee approved withdrawal of American air base

Today Kyrgyzstan Committee for Defense, Security, Law and Order and Judicial-Legal Reform of the Parliament approved withdrawal of the American air base Gansi from the territory of the Republic, the agency reports citing the Parliament press service.

Bishkek. February 10. Kazakhstan Today - Today Kyrgyzstan Committee for Defense, Security, Law and Order and Judicial-Legal Reform of the Parliament approved withdrawal of the American air base Gansi from the territory of the Republic, the agency reports citing the Parliament press service.

According to the press service, the decision was accepted at the session of the committee that considered the bill on denouncement of the counter note of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan on the note of the American Embassy of December, 4th, 2001, forming together the Agreement between the government of Kyrgyzstan and the American government.

According to the press service, the bill will be considered at the plenary session of the Parliament on February, 12th, 2009.

As informed earlier, the President of the country, Kurmanbek Bakiev, at the press conference, following the results of the meeting with the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, in Moscow, on February, 3rd, 2009, stated the decision of the leadership of Kyrgyzstan to finish the activity of the military base. The leader of the state said that the base was created when the operations in Afghanistan were conducted with application of artillery and military-air forces. "Kyrgyzstan provided its territory for struggle against international terrorism. I consider that during these years our country has brought serious contribution to this cause," K. Bakiev said.

The head of the state noted that when the air base was being created we agreed on one-two year period, but 8 years have passed since then. "During realization by the coalition forces of the goals of struggle against international terrorism, Kyrgyzstan repeatedly discussed with the American partners the economic compensation for the base. But, unfortunately, we have not come to understanding with the USA," K. Bakiev noted.
