Nazarbayev signed amendments to Law On President

Astana. June 21. Kazakhstan Today - The President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Constitutional Law on amendments and additions to the Constitutional Law On President of Kazakhstan, the president's press service informed.

As it was already informed, amendments on the Law on President have been introduced to the law in connection with the constitutional reforms carried out in Kazakhstan. The norms of the law reduces the term of the President's powers from seven till five years; the norm providing suspension of the president' activity in the political party for the period of realization of his powers has been cancelled; the powers of the President concerning the Parliament, the government, courts and judges, the Central Election Commission, the National Bank and akims have been specified.

According to the norms of the law, the President is granted the power to schedule elections not only in the Parliament, but also in the Chambers of the Parliament. "To guarantee representation in the Parliament of national-cultural and other significant interests of the society the President will appoint 15 deputies of the Senate instead of seven," vice Chairman of the President's Administration Onalsyn Zhumabekov informed presenting the bill at the previous joint session of the Chambers of the Parliament.

The President is granted the right to the legislative initiative. "Appointment for the post of the Prime Minister of the Republic by the President will be realized only by the Majilis consent," O. Zhumabekov emphasized.

The President has the power to appoint for the posts of Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defense, Internal Affairs and Justice. Appointment to the post of the Chairman of the National Bank will take place only by the consent of the Senate.
