New Constitution came into operation, date of parliamentary elections appointed in Kyrgyzstan

The new edition of the Constitution has come into operation and the date of parliamentary elections has been appointed in Kyrgyzstan, the agency reports.

Bishkek. October 24. Kazakhstan Today - The new edition of the Constitution has come into operation and the date of parliamentary elections has been appointed in Kyrgyzstan, the agency reports.

"Introduced at the referendum, which was held on October 21, projects of the new edition of the Constitution and the Law on Elections received support of the citizens of the country and are considered adopted," Kurmanbek Bakiyev stated during the ceremony of signing of both documents, which took place yesterday late evening in Bishkek.

The President, who, on October 22, by his decree dismissed the Parliament, informed on the new decree - on the elections in Zhogorku kenesh scheduled for December 16, 2007.

The Law on the new edition of the Constitution of the Kyrgyzstan Republic K. Bakiyev signed during the solemn ceremony.

As it was informed earlier, the national referendum on adoption of the new Constitution and the Code on Elections proposed by the President of the country was held on Sunday in Kyrgyzstan.

According to Central Electoral Commission of Kyrgyzstan, 75.04 % of voters or 1 million 851 thousand 915 people voted for the new edition of the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan. 3.69 % of the citizens voted against. 1 million 861 thousand 440 voters or 75.45 % out of the general number of full age citizens of the Republic voted for the new edition of the Code on Elections, against - about 3 %.
