SCO experts to discuss acceptance of new members in May

Almaty. April 16. Kazakhstan Today - The participants of the forthcoming forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that will be held at the expert level in the middle of May in Beijing will discuss the question of expansion of this organization, the SCO Secretary General Bolat Nurgaliyev said during the organized by RIA Novosti television bridge Moscow-Beijing, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

"The representatives of the research centers of six states will discuss the question of SCO expansion at the forum in Beijing. I think the recommendations of the experts and political scientists will be valuable for defining our basic approaches of acceptance of the SCO new members," B. Nurgaliyev said.

The decision concerning expansion of SCO membership will depend on acceptance of the basic political decision of the SCO member countries.

"Several countries have expressed interest in joining SCO as full members. It is a positive aspect that demonstrates that the organization is in demand and its cooperation efficiency of is high and brings benefits," SCO Secretary General emphasized.

Iran and Pakistan expressed desire to join the organization. Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are permanent members of the organization. Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan possess the status of countries observers.
