Deputy head of Presidential Administration: Only 17% of Kazakhstan citizens read books

Deputy head of the Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ondasyn Orazgalin told about the work to increase the level of reading culture among the population in the country at the 1st Festival of organizations and culture and art personnel "Rukhani kazyna".

Now, following some data, unfortunately only 17% of Kazakhstan citizens can be considered as active readers. In this connection, it is planned to hold a gradual transformation of a network of libraries in culture, leisure, education and enlightenment centres, placing a special emphasis to rural libraries," he said.


According to Orazgalin, rural libraries of the country should be equipped with modern information and communication technologies with special educational programs.

Libraries should be a kind of co-working centre in villages, that will be not only the place to read books and to discuss, but also the centres of knowledge and art. The most information and communication technologies and educational programs should be introduced. Libraries should also keep pace with the times. Rural residents should get an access to world knowledge and achievements. Therefore, libraries should provide them an opportunity to be aware of all modern tendencies and new knowledge. The most modern novelties in world culture, art and literature should be offered in them. Such a work is held in a number of regions," said Orazgalin.
