Kazakhstan pays special attention to the ecological protection of the Caspian Sea, the main source of the Kazakhstan hydrocarbons. The Speaker of Senate of Parliament of Kazakhstan, Vice Speaker of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, informed at the Parliamentary Conference - Energy Security and Environment - held within the autumn sessions of the PA OSCE in Athens, the agency reports citing the Senate press service.

K. Tokaev reminded that commissioning of the global project of Kashagan deposit is planned for 2012.

"We need to admit that the biosystem of the Caspian Sea completely depends on ecological safety of oil operations," the Speaker said.

"Kazakhstan is one of 15 countries with the largest stocks of hydro carbon raw materials, " K. Tokayev said, having added, "Our country is a reliable and responsible power partner of the European Union and the third largest supplier of energy to Europe, a non-OPEC country, after Russia and Norway," he said.
