Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools introduce new system of competitive selection

Only factual knowledge of students was assessed. Now the emphasis is placed on ability and skills of application of the gained knowledge.

Almaty. August 23. Kazakhstan Today - The Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools will hold a trial testing with the use of a new procedure of competitive selection of students in 2012, Kazakhstan Today reports.

"This year, we will hold a trial test based on a new system of competitive selection of students that has been developed jointly with the Institute for Educational Measurement Cito, Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth and the University of Cambridge. The test is aimed to assess the level of knowledge and the level of knowledge application skills as well as abilities to study natural and mathematical sciences", Kulyash Shamshidinova, Chairwoman of the Board of the education organization said in her interview for the Prime MinisterИs official website.

She also noted that earlier, only factual knowledge of students was assessed. Now the emphasis is placed on ability and skills of application of the gained knowledge.

Besides, new educational programs aimed at practical application of knowledge were developed jointly with Cambridge University and would be tested this year.

The work on development of level programs of professional development of secondary school teachers continues. Thesecondleveliscomplete. Preparation of trainers began.
