Baikonur. December 19. Kazakhstan Today - Booster rocket Soyuz-FG with the Canadian satellite Radarsat-2 was launched from Baikonur, the agency reports referring to the source at the cosmodrome.

According to the source, the launch of the booster rocket has been executed at 19.17 by Astana time from starting complex of platform №31 and took place in a regular mode. The space vehicle has been delivered by the booster rocket Soyuz-FG to the basic orbit.

"Satellite RadarSat-2 will be delivered to solar-synchronous orbit at the height of 805 km," the source specified.

Satellite RadarSat-2 was created by MacDonald Detwiller Associates Company within the limits of partnership of MDA Company and space agency of Canada. The space vehicle with the weight of 2200 kg was created for replacement of RadarSat-1, which is intended for monitoring Arctic regions.

The main spheres of Radarsat-2 application - ice and sea investigations, monitoring of natural disasters, hydrology, mapping, geology, agriculture, management of forest resources. Satellite RadarSat-2 is intended for 7 years.
