Indonesia plans to leave OPEC structure

Indonesia informed on plans to leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the agency reports referring to Financial Times.

Almaty. May 29. Kazakhstan Today - Indonesia informed on plans to leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the agency reports referring to Financial Times.

This decision became the consequence of economic and social influence of oil price increase ($130) in the Asian countries, the edition states.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia Purnomo Yusgiantoro explained the reason of leaving the structure of the organization. Indonesia as the consumer of fuel has been trying to achieve reduction of prices for oil while other 12 OPEC member countries did not want it.

Maximum volume of oil extraction in Indonesia was in 1976. In 2005 the country began to buy fuel. As of today, Indonesia extracts less than 1 million barrels a day.

Indonesia joined OPEC two years later after creation of the organization - in 1962. The country is the only OPEC member from Asian-Pacific region.
