Iran to construct gas main for deliveries of gas to Europe around Nabucco

Iran plans to construct gas pipeline connecting it with the European markets around of gas pipeline Nabucco. Director of Department of Planning of the Ministry of Oil of the Islamic Republic, Akbar Torkan, informed on Wednesday, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

Almaty. October 16. Kazakhstan Today - Iran plans to construct gas pipeline connecting it with the European markets around of gas pipeline Nabucco. Director of Department of Planning of the Ministry of Oil of the Islamic Republic, Akbar Torkan, informed on Wednesday, the agency reports referring to RIA Novosti.

"Iran is not connected in any way with Nabucco project. Considering the fact that the European Union does not need the Iranian gas, we have decided to develop our own project not connected with Nabucco," A. Torkan informed.

He emphasized that Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland and a number of other countries have already shown interest in purchase of Iran natural gas. "To provide the needs of these countries for blue fuel, the Persian pipeline will be built from Iran to Europe," the Iranian official said.

As it was informed earlier, the Minister of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Manuchehr Mottaki, assured that the present and perspective cooperation of Iran with the European countries in oil-and-gas sphere is not directed against the interests of the third countries. As he said, "construction of the gas pipeline from Iran to Europe has been on the agenda of the Iranian leadership for a long time." Thus, M. Mottaki noted that Teheran has the right to carry out an independent policy in gas cooperation with other countries as other countries - exporters of gas, including Russia and Algeria do."

Construction of gas pipeline Nabucco, the route of which is offered around Russia through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria and, probably, Germany, is planned to begin in the end of 2010 and to finish in 2013.
