CSTO Collective Security Council held anniversary meeting in Moscow

The anniversary summit was started with a meeting of the Presidents of the member states in a narrow format. At the end of the meeting, the Declaration of Heads of member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was adopted.

Moscow. 17 May. Kazakhstan Today - CSTO Collective Security Council held anniversary meeting in Moscow, Kazakhstan Today reports referring to PM press-service.

The CSTO Collective Security Council's anniversary meeting was held in Moscow. The Organization celebrates the 20th anniversary of signing of the Collective Security treaty and 10th anniversary of the CSTO in May this year.

President of Kazakhstan participated in the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the press service of Akorda reported.

The anniversary summit was started with a meeting of the Presidents of the member states in a narrow format. At the end of the meeting, the Declaration of Heads of member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was adopted.

An enlarged session of the CSTO Collective Security Council with the participation of foreign ministers, ministers of defense and secretaries of the security councils was held following the meeting.

Summing up the results of the Organization's activity for the previous year, the participants emphasized the weighty results that were achieved over the period. Interstate bodies for coordination of cooperation in different spheres of ensuring security have been established and are presently functioning. Collective security forces able to timely respond on challenges and threats against our countries were formed. The agreement on collective peacekeeping efforts was signed.

The Protocol on deployment of military infrastructure facilities of the third countries in the territory of the CSTO member states was signed in December 2011. This was a very important document for strengthening partnership.

"Undercover", "Channel", "Proxy" operations on countering illegal drug trafficking, illegal migration and provision of information security are held annually. Analysis of the results of these activities shows that there are good prospects and potential for cooperation in these spheres.

Later, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha made statements to the press.

"We defined promising directions of development of the Organization for future and exchanged our views on the topical issues of the global and regional security as well as the further collective measures at the session. In particular, the issues of countering security threats and challenges emanating from Afghanistan, situation in the Middle East and North Africa including Syria and Iranian nuclear program were addressed. I would like to note that Kazakhstan appreciates the activity of the CSTO. We will further exert every effort to develop and strengthen the Organization," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Nikolay Bordyuzha, in his turn, said that the issues regarding improvement and activation of the military cooperation within the CSTO would be addressed at the upcoming session.
