Kazakhstan and Lithuania plan to expand transit-transport cooperation.

Astana. September 17. Kazakhstan Today - Kazakhstan and Lithuania plan to expand transit-transport cooperation. The co-Chairman of the commission, vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Rapil Zhishibayev said today during the session of the intergovernmental Kazakhstan-Lithuanian commission on commerce and economic cooperation, the agency reports.

"One of the most perspective directions, proceeding from the interests of Kazakhstan, is development in the field of transport and transit," R. Zhoshibayev noted. Vice Minister emphasized that "now our countries consider the prospects of use of railway transportation." "Regarding further cooperation the combined container train started in 2003 Viking is of the interests we have along the route Odessa - Ilyichevsk-Klaipeda, " he said.

Vice Minister noted that "any proposals on the use of transit potential of Lithuania will conform the efforts of Kazakhstan in diversification of routes of transportation of hydrocarbonic raw material and in searches of alternative ways of their delivery to the world markets. As it was informed in the press release widespread today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the main interest of the Lithuanian party consists in attraction of Kazakhstan oil to the Lithuanian transit corridor for export and processing at Lithuanian oil-processing factory. According to Kazakhstan statistic bodies, volume of commodity turnover between Kazakhstan and Lithuania in 2005 made $97.8 million and in 2006 it decreased up to $72.9 million that is by 25 %.
