Russia assumed presidency in CSTO in absence of Belarus

Almaty. June 15. Kazakhstan Today - Russia has assumed temporary presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the absence at the summit of the Belarus party. The President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, informed at the summit in Moscow, the agency reports citing ITAR-TASS.

"According to the arrangement of the CSTO members, in the absence of Belarus, we have made a decision that Russia would temporary assume the post of the CSTO chairman - the country that hosts the summit," D. Medvedev said.

"Russia will preside in the organization until the final decision regarding presidency is accepted". "I think that, in the near future, we will resolve this and everything will be done to make the organization mechanisms work smoothly and effectively," the President of Russia emphasized.

He thanked the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, for the productive work on the post of the CSTO chairman and informed that his report on the course of performance of the work on military coalition formation was approved at the summit.
