Astana. June 25. Kazakhstan Today - The Third Security Forum of Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) began its work in Astana, the agency reports.

The official representative of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, initiated carrying out the forum in Kazakhstan, which was supported by the North Atlantic Council.

"The Security Forum, 'Security Through Partnership', is an informal platform for the open and free discussion of the regional and global security issues," Y. Ashikbayev informed.

According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the forum participants in Astana plan to discuss security issues in Central Asia and Caucasus, the situation in Afghanistan, and energy security issues.

He also said that the present forum will be for the first time held on the CIS space and the Asian continent and will be one of the largest international events in 2009 in Kazakhstan.
