The UN General Assembly has approved the initiative of Kazakhstan to declare August 29 as the International Day against Nuclear Tests. The official representative of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed at a briefing, the agency reports.

Astana. December 7. Kazakhstan Today - The UN General Assembly has approved the initiative of Kazakhstan to declare August 29 as the International Day against Nuclear Tests. The official representative of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yerzhan Ashikbayev, informed at a briefing, the agency reports.

"This step is recognition by the international community of the significant contribution of our country under the leadership of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to the strengthening of international security and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction," Y. Ashikbayev informed.

As informed earlier, Semipalatinsk nuclear range was closed by the decree of the head of state on August 29, 1991.
