15 documents signed following meeting of CIS heads of government in Astana

The sides have reached agreements in such important areas as ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities, the peaceful use of outer space, finance and the humanitarian sphere.
Following the meeting of the Council of the heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States, 15 different documents were signed on topical issues of further cooperation within the CIS. Chairman of the Organization’s Executive Committee, Sergey Lebedev, said at a press briefing.

Today, the agenda has included very topical issues in the life of the CIS, first of all, in the economy of our states. This is ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities, the peaceful use of outer space, and the documents regulating a number of financial issues in the CIS activities in the humanitarian sphere. A total of 15 documents were signed," said Sergey Lebedev.

In his turn, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda separately highlighted the importance of the signed agreements.

I want to emphasize the fact of adopting the Concept of Cooperation of the CIS member states on the development of high-tech energy equipment production and a plan of main measures for its implementation. The draft concept defines the main approaches to promoting the use of energy equipment produced in the CIS countries. We also signed an agreement on the interaction of CIS member states on preparedness in the event of a nuclear accident or an emergency, and mutual assistance while eliminating consequences. The document is aimed at simplifying mutual assistance procedures, which will reduce the response time to any possible incidents involving the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes and will increase the level of nuclear and radiation safety in general," said Kokhir Rasulzoda.

Speaking to the media, the Chairman of the Organization’s Executive Committee, Sergey Lebedev, said that the meeting of the heads of government of the Commonwealth countries in Astana confirmed that Kazakhstan remained a fertile platform for large and integration events.

I can only confirm that a meeting of the CIS security agencies took place a week ago in Almaty. Now the meeting of the CIS heads of government is held in Astana. Although Kazakhstan does not chair this year, it provided this platform, and it turned out to be very productive in terms of signing the documents that we talked about earlier. A CSTO summit will convene in Astana next week, on November 8, the Forum of border regions of Russia and Kazakhstan will convene on November 9. All these facts confirm that Kazakhstan was and remains a supporter of preserving and strengthening the CIS," said Sergey Lebedev.
