Cooperation Protocol between SCO antiterrorist structure and CARICC signed in Almaty

The Cooperation Protocol between the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure (RATS) and the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors (CARICC) was signed today, the agency reports.

Almaty. September 27. Kazakhstan Today - The Cooperation Protocol between the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure (RATS) and the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors (CARICC) was signed today, the agency reports.

Beksultan Sarsekov, CARICC Director, cooperation, first of all, implies exchange of information and participation in all events of the two international organizations.

Memorandum of mutual understanding on regional cooperation in the field of control over illegal manufacture, turnover, drug abuse, psychotropic substances and precursors was signed on May 4, 1996 in Tashkent by Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Central Asian countries and the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Later, Russia, Azerbaijan and Aga Khan Fund joined the memorandum.

The CARICC agreement was signed on July 24, 2006 in Astana and on September 4, 2010.

As informed earlier, Austria, Pakistan, Canada, the USA and Germany received the status of the CARICC observer. The decision was made during the second session of the Council of the National Coordinators of the CARICC member states, which took place in Almaty on December 8, 2009.
