CSTO, EU to cooperate in security issues in Central Asia

Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and European Union plan to cooperate in the issues of security in Central Asia, CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Borduzha and the Special representative of the European Union for Central Asia Pierre Morel discussed at the meeting on Wednesday, CSTO Secretariat press service informed the agency.

Moscow. February 7. Kazakhstan Today - Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and European Union plan to cooperate in the issues of security in Central Asia, CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Borduzha and the Special representative of the European Union for Central Asia Pierre Morel discussed at the meeting on Wednesday, CSTO Secretariat press service informed the agency.

According to the press service, the parties exchanged opinions on the situation in the Central Asian region and on solution of the existing issues.

P. Morel noted that the main goals of the Strategy of the European Union in Central Asia is maintenance of security and stability, economic development of the region, development of power engineering, environment protection, education and promotion of democratic principles. Special attention the EU representative paid to the question of coordination of international efforts in counteraction to terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and illegal circulation of weapons and drugs.

N. Borduzha informed the EU representatives on the work in CSTO format on counteraction to Afghanistan drug threat, illegal migration, and formation of joint potential for response to extreme situations and peacemaking forces of CSTO.
