Ex-Chairman of Environmental Control Committee put on international wanted list

On June 19 this year a criminal case on the fact of abuse of authority with the damage to state amounting to $1.4 bln was initiated against Mutashev and Turekeldiev.

Astana. September 11. Kazakhstan Today - The former chairman of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the republic of Kazakhstan, Sagynbek Mutashev has been put on an international wanted list, Kazakhstan Today reports.

As the press service of the Agency for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (Financial Police) recalled, on February 24 this year, the Agency initiated a criminal case against the officers of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the MEP. They were accused of taking bribes in the amount of 100 thousand U.S. dollars from the representatives of two mining companies for illegally issuing permits to release cyanide into the river Sekisovka in East Kazakhstan region, which occurred on the night of October 30, 2011.

On suspicion of committing the crime on February 28, 2012 the deputy chairman of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Environment, S. Turekeldiev was detained. On March, 2 he was arrested under the authority of the court.

In addition, according to the agency, as the inquiry progressed the involvement in this crime of the former chairman of the Committee for Environmental Regulation and Control of the Ministry of Environment S. Mutashev was established.

As the Financial Police informed, on June 19 this year a criminal case on the fact of abuse of authority with the damage to state amounting to $1.4 bln was initiated against Mutashev and Turekeldiev.

Also Mutashev is accused of taking bribes in the form of petrol coupons from September 2011 to January 2012 for a total of 132 thousand tenge from his subordinate - chief of a department of ecology for general patronage.

Since Mutashev escaped from the investigating authorities, on August 25, 2012 with the approval of the court for the arrest he was put on an international "wanted" list. Criminal cases are investigated, other information in the interests of the investigation is disclosed, the press service concluded.
