Ministry of Agriculture suggests introducing moratorium on industrial catch of sturgeon

Astana. May 20. Kazakhstan Today - The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan suggested to the government to introduce moratorium on industrial catch of sturgeon in 2010. The chairman of Fishing Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Yury Romashov, informed at the press conference today, the agency reports.

"We have taken some measures to preserve the population of sturgeon. We sent the letter to the special bodies where we recommend to catch sturgeon only for reproduction purposes, scientific purposes," E. Romashov said.

"The similar moratorium on catch of sturgeon only for reproduction purposes had been already introduced and been in operation in the territory of the Russian Federation for some time. "The Ministry of Agriculture made such a proposal in the government. They are now discussing this question in the state structures," he noted.
