Parliamentary delegation took part in 117th Inter-Parliamentary Union session in Geneva

The Parliamentary delegation headed by the Majilis chairman Aslan Musin took part in the next 117th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, taken place on October 8-10, 2007 in Geneva, Kazakhstan Majilis press service informed the agency.

Astana. October 12. Kazakhstan Today - The Parliamentary delegation headed by the Majilis chairman Aslan Musin took part in the next 117th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, taken place on October 8-10, 2007 in Geneva, Kazakhstan Majilis press service informed the agency.

During the session the head of the Kazakhstan delegation made the report at the plenary session of the first permanent committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on the theme Role of Parliaments in Defining Balance between the Interests of National Security, Guarantee of the Rights and Freedom, Prevention of Threat to Democracy.

The Majilis chairman held bilateral meetings with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union A. Johnson and the chairmen of the Chambers of the Swiss Parliament.

According to the press service, during the meetings with the Swiss members of parliament the questions of mutual relations, including activization of economic cooperation, attraction of investments and technologies, scientific exchange, strengthening of political communications and cooperation between the parliaments have been discussed.

Following the results of the session the delegations of the countries-participants of the Inter-Parliamentary Union developed reports on three basic subject matters of the agenda: balance between the interests of national security and human rights, parliamentary control over the state policy in the area of rendering assistance, migration, xenofobia and human rights. The participants accepted the resolution expressing concern for the situation in Myanma.

The next session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in April, 2008 in Cape Town, the Republic of South Africa.
