RK Minister of Defense, NATO Deputy Secretary General discussed situation in Caucasian region

During the meeting in Astana the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Daniyal Ahmetov, and NATO Deputy Secretary General, Claudio Bisogniero, discussed the situation in the Caucasian region, the agency reports.

Astana. September 11. Kazakhstan Today - During the meeting in Astana the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, Daniyal Ahmetov, and NATO Deputy Secretary General, Claudio Bisogniero, discussed the situation in the Caucasian region, the agency reports.

"Kazakhstan has expressed its position on the situation on Caucasus. We consider that further work should be done through a political dialogue within the UN charter and OSCE activities," D. Ahmetov said.

"We hope that this conflict will be resolved through an agreement between Medvedev and Sarkozi," the Minister emphasized.

The Defense Minister noted that Kazakhstan renders humanitarian aid to both of the sides.

"In Georgia Kazakhstan has large volume of investments. Therefore, we are the side that is interested in resolution of this conflict," the Minister emphasized.

D. Ahmetov noted that "Kazakhstan is the interethnic state and questions of interethnic and inter confessional concord are a priority for the Republic."
